Catching Foxes

Two guys talking about the collision of faith and culture. Discussion over Instruction. *Occasionally explicit.

About the show

Luke and Gomer became friends Freshman year at the Franciscan University of Steubenville and 14 years later they started a podcast. The show oscillates between a conversation between just the two of us and interviews that we do together of other, fancier people. Sometimes we get explicit either by being too honest or by being too stupid. Either way, it's fun!

Episodes

  • Beauty will Save the World!

    July 3rd, 2021  |  1 hr 10 mins

Luke and Gomer talk about a TOTALLY FICTIONAL NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION'S board and whether it would be either legal or ethical. Then we talk about a talk, this one from Tracey Rowland at the Dawson Society: "What did Dostoyevsky mean when he said ‘Beauty will save the world’?

  • Welcome to Your Cohort

    June 25th, 2021  |  1 hr 14 mins

Luke is at Notre Dame. Did you know? Well, this episode involves Luke just walking around campus trying to get home for the night (he gets lost at one point). Also, Luke talks about how two accounting professors embody Catholic education in the best way possible.

  • Shannon Gormley Uncensored! (AMA)

    June 19th, 2021  |  1 hr 4 mins
    catholic, family, homeschooling, marriage, nascar

Luke's at Notre Dame and bailed on me last second, so I went to my OTHER wife, Shannon, and ask her to also be my podcasting wife. Here's her debut performance! "Ask Michael's Wife Anything". And you did. Well, sorta. You mostly asked her marriage questions, as if being married to me was some hardship or something. Bah! I'm a gem, I tells ya, A GEM! We talk NASCAR- why she likes it, how she got into it, and why it's important to her; Homeschooling and our Classical approach, and then a ton of questions about being married to an idiot like me.

  • 3 Life Questions

    June 11th, 2021  |  53 mins 35 secs

Luke got to Notre Dame today, walked the campus, and got his apartment situation figured out, so this means he's exhausted when we recorded. We shortened the show to 2 follow-up comments and 3 Patreon questions.

  • Six Types of Working Genius and Ministry

    June 4th, 2021  |  1 hr 22 mins
    culture, discernment, work

John Boy and Billy BS: Luke killed a mouse, Gomer’s wife killed a scorpion, while Gomer was naked! We have a new Take Gomer to the Woodshed moment. TOPIC: Patrick Lencioni's "Six Types of Working Genius" and how it applies to the Church. These are incredibly insightful.

  • Sacred Art, Progress, and How to Argue with your Spouse

    May 28th, 2021  |  1 hr 22 mins

We start talking about Sacred Architecture and crappy churches, which moves the conversation to Sacred Artwork and how we advance them without getting lost in the lameness of the fad or the trendy. Then halfway we hit on the topic of arguing with your spouse. We end with a "Keeping up with the Kardashians" moment of "Take Luke out to the Woodshed".

  • Massa Damnata?

    May 21st, 2021  |  1 hr 46 mins

Luke and Gomer talk about goodness and why people always want to be right in the Church, even when we damn our adversaries needlessly.

  • We Never Forgot You, Dr. Dre.

    May 14th, 2021  |  1 hr 6 mins
    catholic, music, prayer, spirituality

This was just a fun, silly, random episode. The main topic, somewhere around minute 35 or 40, is about Luke's lack of a prayer life over the last few months and how Gomer (me!) advised him to get back on track. It's solid gold advice, my friends.

  • Marvel vs. NASA

    May 7th, 2021  |  1 hr 11 mins
    apple, appletv, catholic, marvel

Gomer and Luke start out with some banter, then follow-up. The topic for today is contrasting "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" with "For All Mankind" in the areas where they treat social issues. Gomer bashes the crap out of Marvel for their inability in this show to not be on the nose and praises the writers and actors of "For All Mankind" so creating such compelling characters that you actually think they are, you know, human.

  • Dumb and Dumber as Cultural Lighthouse

    April 30th, 2021  |  1 hr 11 mins
art, atonement, dumb and dumber, marxism

We each brought a topic, but I sidetracked the Hell out of us both. Topic One: Gomer's critique of the bloody Marxist critique of corporations stealing our future, and Luke's reasoned response involving Catholic Creatives and art stuff. Topic Two: GOMER CAN'T STOP TALKING ABOUT ATONEMENT THEOLOGY, but today's twist is how Gomer discovered via YouTube how much the Orthodox hate Catholics and how the Taylor Marshall of American Orthodoxy is an old woman.

  • 4 Big Topics: Gomer's Update, Atonement Theology, Wokism and Gospel Dignity, and Super League

    April 23rd, 2021  |  1 hr 26 mins
atonement, blm, miscarriage, soccer, super league, works of the law

Gomer's personal family update (miscarriage aftermath), Atonement Theology especially in regards to the phrase "works of the law", Wokism and the theory that Christian human dignity is restraining violence, and Super League gets corrupted by external goods.

  • Her Name is Hope

    April 16th, 2021  |  1 hr 1 min

Luke and I banter for 20 minutes about grad school, Gomer redoing his office, etc. Then we introduce the subject and Gomer cries a lot. Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

  • All the Red Threads (Fixed Version)

    April 9th, 2021  |  1 hr 19 mins
    catholic, conversation, creation, joe rogan

Have you ever had a debate with a famous person about Jesus entirely in your head? This is Gomer's tale of reaching Joe Rogan.

  • The Lost SEEK21 episode

    April 2nd, 2021  |  1 hr 10 secs
    catholic, focus, luke, seek21

We love SEEK, so we made a very Catching Foxes podcast for the virtual SEEK21 conference this year and it was ...not allowed. Well, it's Good Friday and I don't want to record a new episode, so here it is!

  • Don't Ruin Your Wedding... also thoughts on rap and sexual incompatibility

    March 26th, 2021  |  1 hr 20 mins

Don't let the Wedding Industry ruin your Marriage. We discuss the extremes of idiots who miss the glorious communal celebration that is Holy Matrimony. Then we talk about rap-as-scapegoat in our culture. Finally, Moira asks about whether sexual incompatibility is a secular thing or a Catholic thing, too.

  • Luke and The Leadership Zoo

    March 19th, 2021  |  1 hr 33 mins
    catholic, hypocrites, leadership, swot analysis

The one where luke once again talked about stuff he probably should have shared with gomer first... whoopsie! Luke is taking a leadership course for his Grad Degree at NOTRE DAME and he decided to apply it to a "Catholic Stuff You Should Know" episode (Leaving the Zoo) to explain to Gomer the reality of the Catholic Church today.
