Luke and Gomer became friends Freshman year at the Franciscan University of Steubenville and 14 years later they started a podcast. The show oscillates between a conversation between just the two of us and interviews that we do together of other, fancier people. Sometimes we get explicit either by being too honest or by being too stupid. Either way, it's fun!

We talk about Comedy and its relationship to truth, insight, and when they go too far. Then we move into the topic of the show: repeating everything Catholic Stuff You Should Know's episode: "Addicted to Mediocrity".

attention, brain, internet, tv
Luke and I discuss the book Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman, How to Watch TV News, and The Shallows by Nicolaus Carr, and how they build the case against TV and the Internet in terms of conveying information density.
Gomer is convinced of the argument because "The Medium is the Message." But, in a fascinating twist, we apply that to the "digital first" online church and what potential pitfalls that can have on a cognitive basis, as well as to the vitality of Christian faith.
Luke applies it to British self-hating Soccer fans and to the difference between pop art that passes and the Classics that remain.

She's here! Everleigh Carey is big, beautiful, and a female version of Luke. Oh, but it was a tumultuous birthing experience filled with yogurt, Luke laying down a lot, an emergency C-section, and all the things that make parents anxious. Then Gomer shares about the tragic death of a family member (pray for him) and the need to just be with one another.

WE HAVE CHAPTERS! SKIP AROUND! Many topics, but the 4 big ones are: Rap: Are we East Coast or West Coast? Gomer's Review of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Luke's Baby Girl is on her way as Gomer gives parenting tips. Finally, Gomer regards all social media, esp. Twitter, as a Dark Tornado of Violence, and shuts it down.

godfather, harry potter, mad men, meaning, purpose, the west
We talk about random things popping into our news feeds, then Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the last season of Mad Men and why it matters, and how Godfather delivers a complicated moral message without being beige moralism. And all of the above as it relates to the death of meaning and the death of the West.

We start with goofiness. Then go into Gomer's sheer exhaustion with sorting out the facts and the blasts. Thanks to BetterHelp.com for sponsoring this show!

Cussing happens. This is a whole show dedicated to nothing. You may laugh.

This show on the racism and riots in our country was recorded last Monday. This is not a news show. This doesn't cover autopsy reports or the President's appearance at various churches/shrines. It walks through bits of history (Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, Reconstruction, Whites Only drinking fountains, etc.) and commentary on today's violence. Start with the JP2 quote from Christifidelis Laici in the show notes. Then listen.

First, we break down our latest, most convicting 3-star review ("They'd probably agree"). Second, Luke asks, "What am I supposed to do with my anger?" Our answers involve St Francis de Sales, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Rage Against the Machine.

I have never read Harry Potter. These two have and love it. So we talk. Also, happy birthday Joe Rudolph!

In this episode, we discuss the fakeness of acting and why the Church Fathers hated it and how that applies to our lives. Then we take fun and thoughtful listener questions from our Facebook Live video and answer them relatively briefly, for a change.
